At The Mach 1 Group (Mach 1), we are proud to partner with a diverse array of clients who are deeply passionate about the causes they serve. We believe in giving back to the community, so each year, our firm chooses a nonprofit with a commendable mission to receive pro bono support. This year, our team is lending its expertise to Make Our Schools Safe (MOSS), a non-profit with a powerful mission to protect students, teachers and staff in schools across the country.
MOSS was founded by Lori and Ilan Alhadeff, who lost their beautiful 14-year-old daughter, Alyssa, to the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland on Valentine’s Day 2018. The nationwide trend in school safety highlights the critical importance of initiatives like MOSS, which strive to create safe learning environments and empower students and teachers.
Mach 1 is working with the MOSS leadership team to raise awareness of the organization’s essential work. Below are a few highlights of MOSS’s accomplishments:
- Created bi-partisan school safety legislation, Alyssa’s Law, which calls for the installation of silent panic alarms that are directly linked to law enforcement. Alyssa’s Law has been successfully adopted in seven states.
- Advocated for local, state and national policy changes to improve school safety standards
- Distributed grants for safety enhancements through its Safe Schools Program, funding over $400,000 in school safety projects, including stop-the-bleed kits, perimeter fencing, bulletproof backpacks, mental health programs, security huts and student scholarships
- Provided resources, training and education on safety protocols
- Engaged parents, students, educators and community leaders to foster a collaborative approach to creating safer school environments
The Mach 1 team is honored to support MOSS’s mission and provide strategic communications counsel through our pro bono program. We invite you to learn more about MOSS and join us in supporting their vital work to make our schools safe for everyone by visiting their website at Make Our Schools Safe.
