Client Spotlight: Women in Neuroscience

Over this past year, it was our joy to work alongside a local nonprofit that is committed to empowering young women.

Women in Neuroscience (WiN) works to build a diverse community of women leaders in neuroscience and neurology. Each year, WiN carefully chooses a cohort of young women, with a particular focus on first-generation, underrepresented minorities and economically disadvantaged students, to offer them an invaluable opportunity: a summer clinical or research internship – also known as a “WiNternship.”

These young women gain hands-on lab experience at the esteemed University of Texas (UT) at Austin and San Antonio (UTSA) as well as the research labs at Dell Medical Neurology in Austin and UT Health Science Center at San Antonio. WiNternships are made possible by generous donations. Working alongside fellow female scientists, these young women receive valuable guidance and mentorship. Each WiNtern also receives a stipend, made possible by donations, to ensure they are able to truly devote their summer to learning and professional development.

What makes WiN stand out even more: Their WiNterns have access to mentorship and support for the rest of their lives, a key element to keeping more women in neuroscience and other STEM careers.

Mach 1 is proud to have helped WiN in these ways:

  • Landed a special feature in Axios
  • Published an opinion column in the Austin American-Statesman
  • Provided strategic counsel on the organization’s public affairs strategy
  • Generated success stories on WiNterns to promote the internships program
  • Recommended social media tactics to maximize fundraising goals

This is a small sample of our work together. We invite you to learn more about WiN and the difference they make in the lives of young women by visiting NeuroWomen.org.
