The 88th Texas Legislative Session has officially kicked off! And nothing says “start of a new Session” quite like the media cycle that repeats itself biennially: 1) members file bills, 2) reporters latch on to the most controversial of them.
With anticipation in the air, but no official work done yet, we see a flurry of reports about the most far-right and far-left proposals. These articles or TV segments often include a lot of speculation and heated comments from opposing sides. And with lot of discussion and debate still ahead, these reports can keep resurfacing if left unchecked.
Just like we see in crisis communications, a false or incomplete narrative can snowball and quickly shift public (and member) support for a bill. Bottom line: bills often need savvy public relations support to cross the threshold.
